Scotland-based tidal energy leader Nova Innovation has won a coveted Shell Springboard award.
The Shell Springboard programme supports the brightest UK businesses innovating for a lower carbon future. The 2017 regional award finals were hosted at Cambridge and Aberdeen, and Nova was one of three companies selected to win £40,000 at the Aberdeen event.
Nova Innovation will now go forward to the UK finals of the 2017 Shell Springboard Programme on 6th April in London, one of just six national finalists. The UK winner will be awarded a further £110,000 of equity-free funding.
Simon Forrest, Chief Executive of Nova Innovation said: “We are absolutely delighted to win this prestigious award. Our team is buzzing with excitement.”
He added: “We have worked really hard to develop our market-leading technology and are immensely proud to have been the first in the world to deliver a grid-connected offshore tidal energy array. We are very grateful to Shell and to the judging panel for this award, which will help us take forward our business development plans in the UK and in international markets.”
Since its inception in 2010, Nova Innovation has been at the forefront of tidal energy technology development. Not only was it was the first company to secure financial close on and to deliver a commercial offshore tidal array, it is leading and driving the development of the global tidal energy market – providing an integrated tidal energy solution that includes: developing future-proof turbine technology; identifying and securing sites; and operating and maintaining tidal arrays.
